Change in the management of the St. Gallen Foundation for International Studies (SSIS)

At the end of June 2008, Mr. Andreas R. Kirchschläger is going to step down as President of the St. Gallen Foundation for International Studies (SSIS). In a speech delivered on the occasion of the opening of the 38th St. Gallen Symposium, Dr. Josef Ackermann, Chairman of the St. Gallen Foundation and Chairman of the Management Board of Deutsche Bank AG, announced that Andreas Kirchschläger will take on new responsibilities after twelve years at the helm of the St. Gallen Symposium. Andreas Kirchschläger took over management of the St. Gallen Symposium during a difficult period, and with due care, inspiration, élan and the necessary determination and perseverance, he developed it further into a place of intellectual dialogue and “living” internationalism the likes of which are seldom seen around the world. Andreas Kirchschläger has always promoted the concept of the International Students’ Committee (ISC) with enormous personal dedication and embodied its principles in a sovereign and exemplary manner. Twelve generations of ISC members have been able to learn from his professional knowledge and human skills. The Board of Trustees deeply regrets the resignation and wishes Andreas Kirchschläger all the best for his future undertakings.

As Dr. Josef Ackermann further announced, Mr. Philip Erzinger will be taking over from Andreas Kirchschläger starting July. As a graduate of the University of St. Gallen and a former member of the ISC, Philip Erzinger knows St. Gallen well and will provide for the necessary continuity. He joins from a leading Swiss Bank where he held responsibilities for India within the private banking division.

The St. Gallen Foundation for International Studies is an independent foundation in St. Gallen with a focus on international projects at the interfaces between business, politics and society. In its role as the supervisory body for the International Students’ Committee (ISC) St. Gallen and the St. Gallen Symposium, the St. Gallen Foundation for International Studies guides the activities of the symposium’s student organising committee, the composition of which changes every year. The foundation assists the ISC-Team in its task of developing the conceptual framework and content, and also plays its part in the strategic development of the symposium.
