Curriculum Vitae


Born in 1949. Yoko Ishikura graduated from Sophia University in Tokyo with a Bachelor of Arts. She received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.


From 1985 until 1992, Yoko Ishikura worked as a consultant with McKinsey and Company in Japan. She became a Professor at the School of International Politics, Economics and Business of Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo in 1992, a position she held until 2000. In addition, she was visiting professor at Darden School from 1995 to 2001. Today, Yoko Ishikura is a Professor for International Business Strategy at Hitotsubashi University.


Yoko Ishikura served as a member of the Board of Directors of Avon Products Co. Ltd. between 1996 and 2000 as well as on the Advisory Board of Mazda Corporation from 2003 until 2006. In 2004, she became a non-executive director of Japan Post, a position she held for three years. At present, she is a non-executive director of Mitsui OSK Lines and a member of the Advisory Board of All Nippon Airways. Furthermore, Yoko Ishikura has held positions on various government advisory councils and is currently a member of the Council for Science and Technology Policy and the Science Council of Japan.


She has published widely in the field of strategic management, including the essay Act Globally, Think Locally, which was selected as one of the Breakthrough Ideas of 2007 for the Harvard Business Review.
