Curriculum Vitae
Born in 1956. Christine Lagarde graduated in economics and American studies from the University of Aix-en-Provence, France. She also studied at the Institute of Political Studies as well as the Law School of Paris X and, in 1980, graduated from Paris University with a post-graduate degree with special emphasis on business and labour law. Furthermore, she holds a Master’s degree in English and a diploma from Holton Arms School in Bethesda (USA).
After lecturing law at Paris X University, Christine Lagarde joined Baker & McKenzie in 1981. As an accomplished lawyer specialised in antitrust and labour law, she had been a Partner of Baker & McKenzie’s Paris office since 1987 and, from 1991 to 1995, served as Managing Partner. In 1995, she was elected to join the Global Executive Committee. Christine Lagarde was Chairman of the Executive Committee of Baker & McKenzie from 1999 to 2004. Subsequently, she assumed the position of Chairwoman of the Global Policy Committee in 2004. In June 2005, Christine Lagarde became Minister of Foreign Trade of France. In May 2007, she became the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries for a brief period before becoming Minister for Economy, Industry and Employment in June 2007.
Christine Lagarde was decorated with Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 2004.
