Revival of Political and Economic Boundaries

The St. Gallen Symposium

Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Finance of Singapore

The 39th St. Gallen Symposium, planned and organised by the International Students' Committee (ISC), closed its doors on 9 May. This year's “3 Days in May” have once again brought together an international group of participants including several hundred decision-makers at the University of St. Gallen to address key issues concerning management and the interfaces between business, politics and society, under the heading "Revival of Political and Economic Boundaries".

Keynote speakers included
Dr. Paul Achleitner and Brady W. Dougan, who discussed the current challenges facing the global financial markets, Dr. Wulf H. Bernotat and Dr. Joseph A. Stanislaw, who gave talks on geoeconomics and energy security, as well as Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Boris Tadic, who highlighted new challenges confronting Europe - 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, to name but a few of the challenging topics in this year’s programme.

Constructive discussion depends on critical dialogue between generations. 200 outstanding students representing 60 nations contributed their forward-thinking ideas and perspectives to the St. Gallen Symposium. An attractive social programme offered the opportunity to continue discussions in an informal atmosphere.

By offering a personal and professional service, the ISC is committed to ensuring the participants' stay in St. Gallen was an unforgettable experience.
