“Time”
In
the thirtieth anniversary year of its foundation, in 2000 the ISC focused on a topic that occupied our
thoughts for reasons other than the millennium alone. Whether immediate or extended, whether subjectively
viewed or precisely measured, time as an ever-present factor has a special meaning for human existence.
Not only individuals and organisations but also whole societies are influenced and marked by the ”constant
impositions” of time. While allowing the process of transformation to become evident as it passes, the
irreversibility of time appears to make events absolute. Often regarded as a re-source, it is, however,
non-accumulative. And although, without exception, our allotted span is finite, no one can assess and
therefore allow for the flexibility it provides. As a pure phenomenon, time is fascinating. As a basis
for all our activities, it motivates us to a deeper involvement.
